Dog Yarn Garments

Like I mentionned in a previous post, I recently bought a husky puppy. And as it is spring time around here, my dog started blowing his coat. A husky has two layers of fur, the undercoat (which keeps him warm) and the guard hairs (which cover the body and keeps dirt from getting to the undercoat itself). When a dog blows its coat, the dead hairs from the undercoat come out... and there is tons of them.. and my dog is still a puppy! I don't want to think about the amount of hair he is going to loose when he gets his full size!

Here's a picture to give you an idea of how much loose hair we're talking about:

Picture from here.

While doing some research about the blowing of the coat, I found out that some people gather all the loose hair and spin it into yarn and make stuff out of it! I tought the idea was pretty cool... so I started to gather my dog's hair in the hopes to make something out of it.

Here are a few pictures from the article I read:

I don't think I would wear my dog's ''yarn'', but I like the idea of making a blanket out of it... I will still have to gather hair for quite a while anyways.. So I have plenty of time to think it over! You can read the whole article through here.

Still dog related, I saw these today:

Chow chows dyed to look like pandas...SO. INCREDIBLY. CUTE. I know pet dyeing surely isn't that safe... but aren't they just awesome?!

Fair Trade Blankets

ONLY 3 EXAMS TO GO MEANS..... I can kind of blog again.

I stumbled across this website a few weeks ago. Novica is a fair trade online shop in association with National Geographic. They have jewelry, furniture, clothing... there's a lot to browse through! The things that mainly captured my attention were these nice alpaca wool blankets... I guess I was cold that day!

Prices are about 100$ for each blanket... I only wish my student budget could afford one of them! Another thing to put on the wishlist!

M.I.A.

I've been missing in action for quite a few days now... But I have two very good reasons...

First: it's the end of the semester and I have loads of papers to write and exams to pass..

Second: I BOUGHT A DOG!

He's a 3 months old husky and his name is Willow... It's my very first dog and I want to do everything right! I just ordered Siberian Husky for the dummies from Amazon and should expect it to come in the mail over the next few days... I also became a member of Husky Owners, a forum dedicated to the world of huskies. I am so glad I joined the forum! Everyone is almost too nice! They are always happy to answer questions and provide good advices! I learned so much on there!

Soooo. That's my quick update! By next week I will have more time to finish my current dreamcatchers, make some DIY denim shorts, finish some jewelry and paintings I started ages ago! And.... I will have more time to blog about it all!

Dreamcatchers!!

So... I was spring cleaning my room and I found this dreamcatcher kit from the dollarstore. Since I had no other project going on, I decided to finish what I had started over a year ago! And I have to say, I found myself a new hobby!! I surfed the web to find more information on how to make different weaves and the like...

Here are some of the dreamcatcher that inspire me at the moment:

I am already planning to make a huge one from my room.. but I think I still need a bit of practice! I am thinking of using a hula hoop as the base frame... I don't know.. It's still in the idea stage.. I'll keep you updated if my ideas come to life. I might also post a picture of my first dreamcatcher as soon as its completed... I only need to add a few feathers!

Fever Ray

Fever Ray is a singer from Sweden. She also has a duo with her brother called The Knife. I don't really know how you would describe the type of music she does... It's... quite unique. My boyfriend (who's really into house music) says it's the kind of music to make you scared... I would say every songs has some magical mood to it. Fever Ray also plays a lot on what she shows in her videos and how she present herself in public events. And, like anything from Scandinavia, Fever Ray is just... amazing!

Here are a few photos and clips so you can be inspired by her fabulous work!

Just so you know, she was costumed like this for a gala...

Enough with the pictures! Here are two very good songs brought to life in two very powerful clips!

Fever Ray is not on tour at the moment... I hope she tours again sometime soon, I would love to see her live... I think it would be quite an experience! You can visit her website here.

Bandit Brand

Bandit Brand. I found out about them sometime last week. This amazing brand is 100% made in the U.S.A. If you like anything with a vintage, rocker, biker, western, native, (you get the picture) feel to it... You will surely like Bandit Brand. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

The bison ring is my most favorite thing at the moment.. I will probably order one for myself if they can make it in my size... I have very small fingers...

Pictures from here.

They keep an amount of the profit made on some tees to send to different programs for the animals. Details on their website. The clothes and the jewelry are really cool. Plus the prices are very reasonable. I will definetly order from them soon!

Things I got in the mail

I finally received my letter from the college I applied to... And I am glad to announce I will be studying biology starting in August!

I also finally received the microlinks I ordered from China. So that means I'll be able to rearrange my feather hair extensions in the next few days!

Last Thursday

I was having breakfast in front on my computer in my room. I left the room to put my empty bowl in the sink.. as I was walking through the doorway to get back in my room, I bumped into a ..... spider hanging down a string of web. I GOT IT RIGHT IN MY FACE. ON. MY. CHEEK. When I realised what it was.. I screamed. My mom, who was still asleep, was wondering what was going on. What troubled me the most is that if I got it in the face while walking in my room, means it was hanging somewhere between the doorframe and my hair when I walked out.. And that means it could have been in my hair without me knowing!! Ewwwwww!

Spiders are disgusting.

Changes

I took off the previous header because it was hideous. This one is much more brighter and I like it. I also rearranged the colours and everything...

Here's a song I like. I am in a crappy mood and this song helps making me feel better. Röyksopp is a norwegian duo. Enjoy!

The video is quite inspiring in itself. I wonder why everything that comes from Sandinavia is always so amazing. Have you noticed, they have a very strong sense of style earlier than anybody... I mean, you look at them on Lookbook or some streetstyle website and you think '' Gosh, that's a statement!'' And then you see he/she's 13.

Anyways, the woman singing in the clip is Fever Ray, I will probably write about her later.

National Geographic Moment

Last summer, I got a subscription to the National Geographic Magazine. It is one of the best things I ever bought. In their last November issue, there was an article on Japan's marine life.

The article featured a picture of these little guys:

They are called purple tunicates and, apparently,  live behind a rock... All of them...

Kelis

In her video for her song ''Acapella'', Kelis is sporting the native/tribal look that's been really popular lately... Interesting that the clip was filmed in 2009 and that the looks only begin to reach the masses...

The clip is worth viewing, as it is candy for the eyes, and, bonus,  the song is really good!

Succulent Wall

Sooooooo!
To start off the long series of things I have been meaning to post..

 Here is ...
the succulent wall.
Picture from here

Isn't it AMAZING? You might have seen this before, they've been blowing people away for a while on various design websites. I always liked how succulents looked, so I went and bought one of my own... Considering I paid 5 $ for one that's 3-inch wide.. I am not to put up one of these living picture frames anytime soon... The plant looks cute on my desk though!

Header!

Well, the header's up...

I think it looks a bit weird but I can't be bothered to work on it now... This will do for a while...

Spring is on it's way and the only thing I can think of is plants at the moment... I am planning to buy/grow a few this year.. And there's also a botanical project I would love to try! I'll share about this tomorrow.. I've got homework to do... again.
